What Former Partners Say

  • Mike was asked for a simple page redesign, and he turned it into a compelling case for why UX principles are essential when building internal tools. That’s Mike in a nutshell: he goes beyond what’s asked and delivers what’s actually needed.

Also, working with Mike was genuinely fun. He’s a natural connector who keeps the energy positive.

    - Elizabeth T. Staff UX Researcher , Home Depot colleague
  • I have hired Mike Gallers four separate times to lead digital experience. Yes, four. I have a gift for spotting talent having worked with him on and off for ten of the last twenty years.

Mike is the rare leader who makes meetings fun. I know that sounds like a lie, so let me say it plainly: I have looked forward to calendar invites because Mike was on them. His sense of humor has gotten entire teams through scope changes, surprise deadlines, and the phrase “quick question for you” from executives. Nobody has ever needed a meeting recovery period after one of his.

He is also dangerously creative. Give Mike a pile of technical constraints, a business that wants everything yesterday, and customers with sky-high expectations, and he will find a solution that satisfies all three. I once expected him to say “pick two.” He never has. It’s mildly infuriating, and it has made me look good every time.

Mike is extremely collaborative. He builds consensus across stakeholders who, on paper, should never agree on anything. He does it by listening, explaining, listening again, and sincerely working to make sure everyone is heard. I’ve watched him get a room full of competing priorities to say “yes, let’s do that,” and I still don’t fully understand how. I suspect witchcraft. More likely it’s patience and good faith, which is somehow even more impressive.

He loves exploring new and innovative ways to solve business problems. He will never settle for “that’s how we’ve always done it,” a sentence he treats with the same warmth most people reserve for a parking ticket. He’s also smart enough to know when the new shiny thing isn’t the right answer, which puts him ahead of most of the industry.

Beneath the jokes, Mike has real integrity and a strong work ethic. He does what he says, owns his mistakes (rare, and few in number), and puts in the work without needing applause. People trust him because he has earned it, again and again. That’s why his coworkers become true partners rather than just names on an org chart.

Finally, Mike is deeply empathetic to customer needs. He can evaluate a solution through the eyes of multiple personas, which is a polite way of saying he can think like a lot of different people. I’m told this is a professional skill and not a personality disorder.

If you have the chance to hire Mike, do it. If you don’t, I’ll gladly hire him a fifth time. My calendar is already looking duller without him.

With sincere (and only mildly sarcastic) endorsement,
